Frankenbourg castle

Mission of the Chateaux mini collab to digitize and preserve the Frankenbourg castle ruins. Scan of the castle and large format 3D print commissioned by Nicolas Dellenbach. Nicola paints and decorates the model himself with plans to exposition it in the museum of the valley of Villé in Albe. Opening in May 2026.

The mountain summit is one of two locations in Alsace where remains of large pagan wall fortifications were found. They are visible on the scan as bright line cutting the forest beneath the castle ruins. The second longer pagan wall is located on the summit of St. Odile mountain. Where the pagan wall was in total 11km long. Origin and purpose of those pagan walls are still strongly disputed.

Pictures of the 1/100 scale maquette being assembled and decorated by Nicolas can be seen in this facebook post.

3D Gaussian splat reconstruction of the ruins can be seen here.

Finally short film made by Nicolas during the mission.
